OhioMTA SouthWest Member Spotlight: Jill Duebber
Q: Thank you, Jill, for giving us the opportunity to learn more about you as a piano teacher in the Cincinnati area. To begin, could you share the most recent teaching method you've incorporated into your studio?
Jill: "The latest element I’ve added to my teaching is more games. Anytime I can gamify learning or reinforcing a new concept is a win."
Q: Gamifying your studio is a wonderful form of education for students. That would be something to look forward to for every lesson! Does anyone else in your family play music?
Jill: "Everyone in my family does music in some capacity. My husband is a drummer, though he doesn’t play much currently. My son is an accomplished saxophone player. My oldest daughter was a dancer and played violin through high school. My youngest daughter is a vocal major at SCPA."
Q: Do you have a favorite dessert?
Jill: "My favorite dessert is pecan pie!"
Q: What pets have you had over the years?
Jill: "I have had cats as pets most of my life, they’re my favorite! In college I tried having a beta fish a couple of times but that didn’t go so well and I got the reputation of being a fish killer. So I went back to cats."
Q: Haha, cats for the win. Describe your relationship to plants, either houseplants or gardening.
Jill: "I used to be terrible with plants, but as I’ve gotten older I have more appreciation for and time for plant care. This is my second summer having a vegetable garden and I really enjoy it. I also have quite a few indoor plants including a couple orchids that are still thriving."
Q: Which historical figure fascinates you most?
Jill: "I do kind of have a fascination with Bono from U2. I have loved the band, seen them in concert, and listened to their music frequently over the years. Recently I read his book that came out and it was really interesting to hear more about his life and passions."
Q: Interesting, most people probably have never considered reading a book by Bono. Thanks for the heads up! What is your favorite mode of travel?
Jill: "My favorite mode of transportation is probably airplane because it means I’m going someplace really cool!"
Q: What types of social gatherings do you enjoy most?
Jill: "I really enjoy intimate social gatherings with my favorite people that I do life with, laugh with, and that I’m most comfortable with."
Q: Describe your first car.
Jill: "My first car was a mint green 1986? Honda Accord. It was dubbed the green machine."
Q: The Green Machine sounds quite unforgettable! What skill set do you never wish to master? (computer, home improvement, car repairs, etc.)
Jill: "I never want to master scuba diving. I hyperventilate trying to breathe underwater."
Thank you Jill for sharing some fun and insight into your life. Jill is a piano teacher in Cincinnati with her husband, 3 kids, and 2 cats. In her downtime she enjoys reading with a cup of mint tea, taking walks, working out, and hanging out with her friends.
